Welcome to Coeur de Xocolat’s Home School Chocolate Workshops where learning meets flavour and every lesson ends with a smile. Designed by World Master Chef David Greenwood-Haigh, these hands-on experiences turn your kitchen table into a chocolate laboratory, connecting science, culture, and creativity through real-world discovery.
Each workshop is fully adaptable for home educators, co-ops, and family learning groups, and aligns with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and UK curriculum goals. Together, we explore chocolate’s incredible journey from rainforest to recipe from the ancient Maya who first revered cacao to today’s sustainable cocoa farms.
Children don’t just learn about chocolate they experience it. They observe crystal structures forming during tempering, measure ingredients in “chocolate maths” activities, and engage their senses through descriptive language and mindful tasting. Every activity reinforces STEM learning, geography, and global citizenship in a format that’s memorable, delicious, and fun.
Our home-school workshops foster inquiry-based learning through key IB themes such as How the World Works, Where We Are in Place and Time, and Sharing the Planet. Learners develop empathy and environmental awareness by exploring Fairtrade, biodiversity, and ethical sourcing essential skills for raising principled, open-minded global citizens.
Whether you’re following a structured curriculum or designing your own, our chocolate education kits and live sessions bring authentic, hands-on exploration to your home.

Our workshops support inquiry-based learning across multiple IB themes:
1. Who We Are – Global Citizenship & Ethics
Learners explore chocolate’s human journey: from ancient civilizations that first cultivated cacao to the lives of modern-day cocoa farmers. Through Fairtrade storytelling, students develop empathy, respect, and a sense of shared responsibility for the world’s resources.
2. How the World Works – Science & Process
Students investigate the fascinating science of chocolate making fermentation, crystallisation, melting points, and states of matter all linked to sensory observation and hands-on experiments.
3. Where We Are in Place and Time – History & Culture
The story of chocolate unfolds across continents and centuries. Pupils trace chocolate’s journey from the Maya and Aztec empires to the European explorers who brought it to the world, examining trade, exploration, and cultural exchange.
4. How We Organise Ourselves – Economics & Sustainability
We explore how cocoa travels from farm to factory to bar, connecting geography, global trade, and sustainable practices. Students discuss fair wages, ethical sourcing, and environmental care essential for developing principled, reflective learners.
5. Sharing the Planet – Sustainability & StewardshipThrough interactive discussions and tasting activities, children learn how climate, biodiversity, and human choices affect cocoa ecosystems and how small actions can make a global difference.
