Bruges isn’t just a postcard-perfect medieval city; it’s a living chocolate museum. Step beyond the lace shops and canals and you’ll find more than 50 artisan chocolatiers working within the city walls from historic family houses to bold new makers experimenting with cocoa origins and savoury pairings.
Bruges is often called the chocolate capital of Belgium. It’s here that pralines were refined, chocolate art was perfected, and cafés still serve steaming bowls of hot chocolate thick enough to stand a spoon in. This safari takes you straight into the cobbled heart of Bruges, where chocolate is celebrated as culture.
How This Safari Works
Your day begins in the Markt square, with the bells of the Belfry as our soundtrack.
From there, we weave through narrow streets and hidden courtyards, tasting, learning, and meeting the people who keep Bruges’ chocolate traditions alive.
At each stop, you’ll sample useing my five-sense tasting method Look, Touch, Listen, Smell, Taste to explore pralines, ganaches, single-origin bars, and even savoury cocoa surprises.
Expect stories of smugglers and monks, cocoa trade routes, and the secrets of Belgian couverture.
Along the way, I’ll challenge you with mini “Safari Challenges”: spot a cocoa press in an old guildhall, identify spice notes in a truffle, or tell the difference between origin chocolates blindfolded.
